Dear WTCAK Members and Friends of the
Center:
Our sincere
thanks to all of you who helped make our special luncheon
on 17 August, featuring
U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski,
a big success. A large audience of business, government, and civic
leaders gathered to hear her address on "Defending Alaska's Resource
Economy Against Government Overreach." It was an insightful address
on the challenges Alaska faces in the nation's capitol in seeking to
develop the state's vast natural resources and, in doing so,
increase our exports.
First and foremost, we want to thank Senator Lisa Murkowski
for speaking at the event. This was the third time since taking
office that she chose the World Trade Center Alaska forum to deliver
a major speech on international trade and resource development
issues important to Alaskans. We also want to express our thanks to
Lynden,
Alaska USA,
Pioneer Natural
Resources,
and Sealaska Corporation
for their generous sponsorship of the luncheon. Thanks also to
Alaska's Lt. Governor, Craig
Campbell,
for making the welcoming remarks and to
State Senator Lesil McGuire
and Susan Bell, State of Alaska Commissioner of the
Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development, for
joining us at the head table during the lunch.
Finally, many thanks to all of you who attended and helped make this
another successful event for the Trade Center.

WTCAK Staff Attends APBO
2010 Conference
|
On April 19 - 20, World Trade Center Alaska (WTCAK) staff
attended the
2010 Asia/Pacific Business Outlook
Conference (APBO) in Los Angeles, CA. This annual
conference is designed to serve as a tool for communication
between private sector companies and the U.S. Commercial
Service. U.S. Department of Commerce representatives from 15
Asia/Pacific countries, as well as other government and
business leaders, gave presentations and conducted
one-on-one meetings at the conference. WTCAK is invited to
participate in the APBO Conference each year and, by
attending, is able to keep relationships with U.S.
Commercial Service officers abroad current. Some of the
speakers from the APBO Conference visit Alaska to give their
presentations at various WTCAK events and, also, many senior
commercial officers help WTCAK to conduct trade missions and
other activities in the region. WTCAK maintains close ties
with U.S. Commercial Service representatives in Asia/Pacific
Region as they are important partners of Alaska in
international trade.
WTCAK staff were briefed by senior U.S. commercial officers on
important markets for Alaska like Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Hong
Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and other
countries. Currently, a number of the country presentations are
posted on the APBO website and we would like to share this valuable
source of information with you.
