Message from the Executive Director
Dear Members:
I hope you are enjoying the summer season as it unfolds. While some of you are undoubtedly
taking some much deserved vacation time to get out and partake in summer activities, this
is the time of year that we receive many out of town visitors at the Center, many from
overseas. So keep an eye on your e-mail inbox for our announcements and newsletters. Over
the summer and into the fall we are planning an impressive roster of presentations and
events that you wont want to miss. Also, as circumstances warrant, we will be
conducting executive briefings on specific international business opportunities.
Congratulations to WTCAK member Hawaiian Vacations whose sister company, Alaskan
Vacations, was the recipient of the 2004 Governors Exporter of the Year
Award in recognition of their commencement of direct passenger flights between Anchorage
and cities in Japan. This year four citiesTokyo, Fukuoka, Hiroshima
and Nagoyawill be served. These flights not only bring thousands of tourists to
Alaska but also provide an important link for business travelers. Japan has been and
remains the states largest trading partner. Last year Alaskas exports to the
country totaled $1.2 billion, accounting for 38% of the states total worldwide
exports.
On the subject of exports, I will be making a special presentation, Building
Alaskas International Trade Economy, at our luncheon meeting on Wednesday,
15 June 2005. The luncheon will be held in the Fifth Floor Conference at Wells
Fargo Bank (Northern Lights and C Street) and gets underway at 12 Noon. During
the presentation, I will provide an update on exports to Alaskas Top Ten markets and
will discuss prospects for export growth.
Finally, working together with our trade colleagues, we are planning a special focus on China
during the month of September. The months activities will include an Alaska-China
Business Conference and a trade mission to Shanghai. More details will be available soon
but be thinking now about how we can help you to position your company as Chinas
economic growth engine continues to roar ahead. Greg Wolf

HOT TRADE LEADS DATABASE
Our partner organization FITA provided us this information, that will be useful for
those of you who are interested to see more sites with trade leads. Well, feast your eyes
on the Hot Trade Leads Database at the Centers for International Trade
Development site. This page has links to many trade lead databases on the Web (including
the one at FITA's site). We found hundreds of sites for importers and exporters,
searchable by country or region of the world. And this is just one page at this useful
site. If you click on "Trade Information Database" in the left column, you'll
find links to statistics, market research, international standards, trade documentation,
logistics, and much more. |
