Under Secretary Francisco Sanchez Visit to Anchorage

Two roundtable meetings were held at WTCAK's classroom in the morning: Travel & Tourism Roundtable and International Trade Roundtable. Under Secretary Sanchez is the highest ranking U.S. official for both industries. Pictured above the participants of the Travel & Tourism Roundtable. WTCAK/Alaska Export Assistance Center & the Export Council of Alaska conducted the 26th Annual Export Alaska Celebration Luncheon. Approximately 200 state's business and government leaders attended the event. Under Secretary Sanchez was the keynote speaker.
Sanchez together with Alaska's Lt. Governor Mead Treadwell and Yoshi Ogawa, a member of the Export Council of Alaska, present the Export Council Scholarship to Kateryna Zozulya, one of the scholarship winners. This year, a total of 6 students received the scholarships. Under Secretary Sanchez and Lt. Governor Treadwell present the Governor's North Star Award for International Excellence to Lynn Johnson, President of Dowland-Bach Corporation. Dowland-Bach exports hydraulic and electronic control systems to the Middle East. This year, 6 organizations received the North Star Awards in various fields.
WTCAK Chairman, Greg Galik and Under Secretary Sanchez sign an MOU between the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Center. WTCAK operates Alaska Export Assistance Center, a field office of the U.S. Commercial Service in Anchorage, for the last 5 years. WTCAK Chairman Greg Galik awards the Immediate Past Chair Rick Pollock the Ambassador Circle Award. Rick serves on WTCAK Board of directors for more than 10 years and was a Chairman of the organization for the last 4 years. Rick Pollock is the Vice President for Global Projects at Lynden International.
Under Secretary Francisco Sanchez gives the keynote presentation to the attendees of the Export Alaska Celebration Luncheon. A standing ovation to Chuck Becker, a former director of the Alaska Export Assistance Center and a veteran employee of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The Export Council of Alaska is one of a nationwide network of export councils intended to foster the international competitiveness of the United States. Nationwide, export councils link together 1,500 leaders of business, government, and academia with the International Trade Administration (ITA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. They serve as an advisory group and communications link between the exporting community and the U.S. Commercial Service of the ITA.
